🐼🐘 Cubaris sp. "Panda King Tapir" | The Unique Multi-Toned Morph

The "Panda King Tapir" is an intriguing and highly distinctive color variant of the Cubaris family. Named after the Malayan Tapir—which shares a similar "half-and-half" color blocking—this morph features a sophisticated palette of deep charcoal, slate grey, and creamy white. Unlike the sharp contrast of the original Panda King, the Tapir morph often displays a more "gradient" or "masked" appearance that looks incredibly prehistoric.

🧬 Species Information

  • Scientific Name: Cubaris sp. "Panda King Tapir"
  • Origin: Captive-bred selection (Southeast Asian lineage).
  • Size: 1.2–1.5 cm (Medium and "chunky").
  • Visuals: Usually features a dark head and rear with a lighter "saddle" or band in the middle, mimicking the camouflage of a jungle tapir.

🛠️ Care Requirements

The "Tapir" remains one of the most hardy Cubaris morphs available, making it excellent for those who want a "wilder" or more natural look without the difficulty of rare cave species.

Requirement Specification
Difficulty Easy to Moderate. Very resilient for a Cubaris.
Humidity High (75-80%). Requires a constant moist zone.
Temperature 22–26°C (72–79°F). Thrives at tropical room temps.
Substrate Deep (6-8 cm), organic, and moisture-retaining.
Activity Highly social; famous for "stacking" under bark.

🥗 Diet & Habitat

  • The Foundation: They are voracious eaters of white-rotted wood. If you provide plenty of soft, decaying wood, this colony will explode in size.
  • Leaf Litter: They prefer softer leaves like Oak or Apple over waxy leaves like Magnolia.
  • Protein: High demand. Offer protein-rich snacks (dried shrimp or silkworm pupae) twice a week to support breeding.
  • Calcium: Essential for their thick, armored segments. Keep a piece of cuttlebone in the enclosure at all times.

💡 Why "Tapir" is the Collector’s Choice

The Camouflage Expert: While the White or Pink morphs are designed to stand out, the Tapir is designed to look like a natural part of a forest floor. In a bioactive setup with moss, wood, and stones, they look incredibly realistic and "wild."
  • Burrowing Masters: Like all Panda King variants, the Tapir morph loves to "remodel" the substrate. You will see them peeking out from tiny tunnels, showing off their unique facial masks.
  • The "Gateway" Morph: If you are eventually planning to keep high-end species like Cubaris sp. "Jupiter" or Cubaris sp. "Amber", the Tapir is the perfect species to practice with, as it has similar environmental needs but is much more forgiving.

📦 What You Receive

  • Starter Culture: X Cubaris sp. "Panda King Tapir" isopods.
  • Mixed Sizes: A healthy variety of ages to ensure the colony begins reproducing immediately.

Pro-Tip: The Tapir morph looks best when kept on dark soil with bright green live moss. The dark charcoal tones of the isopod create a beautiful, moody aesthetic in "jungle" themed terrariums.
