🐼⚪ Cubaris sp. "Panda King White" | The Ghost of the Jungle

The "Panda King White" is a high-end, leucistic-leaning color morph of the original Panda King. While the standard version is famous for its "panda" markings, the White morph has been selectively bred to minimize the dark pigments. The result is a stunning, ghostly isopod that appears almost entirely snowy-white or translucent-cream, often retaining just a faint, "shadowy" hint of the original mask.

🧬 Species Information

  • Scientific Name: Cubaris sp. "Panda King White"
  • Common Name: White Panda / Snow Panda
  • Origin: Captive-bred color mutation (Southeast Asian lineage).
  • Size: 1.2–1.5 cm.
  • Aesthetic: A "clean," minimalist look. They stand out beautifully against dark soil or green moss.

🛠️ Care Requirements

The White morph shares the legendary "beginner-friendly" genetics of the Panda King line. They are robust, prolific, and less finicky than other white Cubaris (like the Cubaris sp. "White Pigeon").

Requirement Specification
Difficulty Easy. The perfect entry-level "white" isopod.
Humidity High (75-80%). Maintain a moist side with deep sphagnum moss.
Temperature 22–26°C (72–79°F). Stable room temperatures are ideal.
Substrate Depth 5–8 cm. Like all Pandas, they are obsessive burrowers.
Ventilation Moderate. They need fresh air but must never "dry out."

🥗 Diet & Nutrition

White morphs often have thinner-looking shells due to the lack of dark pigment, making mineral intake even more visually apparent.

  • Primary: Heavy consumption of leaf litter and white-rotted wood.
  • Calcium: High Demand. Provide cuttlebone or crushed eggshells. Calcium is what gives their "White" shell its solid, opaque appearance.
  • Protein: Provide 2 times a week (dried minnows, shrimp, or pea flakes).
  • Cleanliness: Being white, they show "gut load" easily. Feeding them colorful foods like squash can sometimes be seen through their translucent sides!

💡 Why Choose the "White Panda"?

The High-Contrast Choice: If you have a bioactive setup with dark Abiosoil or bright green moss, these isopods "pop" visually like no other. They are the easiest way to get a "pure white" isopod colony without the high price tag or difficulty of more sensitive species.

  • Social & Busy: They are not as shy as other white species. You will frequently see them congregating in groups under cork bark or "waddling" across the surface.
  • Fast Population Growth: Among the Cubaris genus, the Panda King White is one of the fastest to go from a starter culture to a massive colony.

Visual Tip: Many keepers love to mix Panda King White with the original Black/White Panda King to create a "Dalmatian" or mixed-color colony that stays genetically compatible!
