Porcellio Hoffmanseggi "Yeti"
Product Description
Porcellio hoffmannseggi "Yeti" is the rarest and most ethereal morph of the legendary Spanish Titan. This high-end designer isopod is a true "Holy Grail" for collectors, featuring a breathtaking creamy-white to ivory coloration across its entire massive body.
While it retains the monstrous size (up to 4.5 cm) and the iconic, spear-like long uropods of the standard P. hoffmannseggi, the "Yeti" mutation strips away the dark pigments to create a ghost-like, majestic appearance. Standing out vividly against dark soil or green moss, these "White Giants" are exceptionally bold and active. Observing a colony of these massive, pale crustaceans moving through a terrarium is a hauntingly beautiful experience.
Perfect for ultra-high-end collections, prestige display exhibits, and advanced breeders looking for the pinnacle of Spanish Giant morphs.
Species Information
- Species: Porcellio hoffmannseggi "Yeti"
- Morph: "Yeti" (White/Ivory)
- Origin: Selective breeding from Southern Spanish stock
- Size: ~3.5–4.5 cm (The largest white isopod in the world)
- Activity Level: High / Very Bold
- Rarity: Extremely Rare / Prestige Collector Species
Care Requirements
- Difficulty: Moderate to Advanced (Requires stability and space)
- Humidity: Low to Medium. A sharp moisture gradient is mandatory. Keep 80% of the enclosure bone-dry, with one large corner of consistently damp sphagnum moss for hydration and molting.
- Temperature: 20–27°C (68–80°F). They are very tolerant of warmth but thrive in stable Mediterranean conditions.
- Ventilation: Extreme/Maximum. Excellent cross-ventilation is non-negotiable. This species will not tolerate stagnant, "heavy" air.
- Substrate: Deep organic soil mix enriched with calcium and limestone, covered with a thick layer of dry leaf litter.
Must Provide:
- Large Vertical Cork Bark: They love to climb and show off their massive size on vertical surfaces.
- Abundant dry leaf litter: They are voracious eaters of Oak and Beech leaves.
- A large, consistently damp "hydration station."
- Constant access to high-quality calcium (cuttlebone).
Origin and Distribution
The parent species is native to the Iberian Peninsula (Southern Spain), but the "Yeti" morph is the result of dedicated selective breeding within the hobby.
These giants evolved in the sun-baked, rocky landscapes of Andalusia. The "Yeti" line has been carefully stabilized to ensure the stunning white coloration is passed to the next generation, making it one of the most visually rewarding (and valuable) lineages in the international isopod market.
Diet
- Primary: Massive consumption of dry leaf litter and decaying white-rotted wood.
- Protein: Very High Demand. To support their growth and massive size, provide dried shrimp, fish flakes, or minnows 2-3 times a week.
- Vitamins: Occasional fresh vegetables like squash, carrots, or sweet potato.
- Calcium: Absolute Requirement. Crucial for their thick, calcified armor and successful molting cycles.
What You Receive
- Starter culture of X Porcellio hoffmannseggi "Yeti" isopods.
